Kahu Youth Trust

WHAT IS KAHU YOUTH
Kahu Youth is a registered Charitable Trust formed in July 2003, and is managed by a trust board of 6 Trustees who meet monthly. It was developed after the community recognized a need for youth voice, along with youth based activities and events within the Wanaka Community. Kahu Youth Trust now has two Youth Workers operating 35 hours a week both in and out of ‘The Crib’ our youth club situated beneath Cinema Paradiso on Ardmore Street. They are dedicated to working with young people aged between 11-24 years old. ADVENTURE CLUBS Girls Adventure Clubs: Ages 11 – 18 years old Meet Wednesday’s for two hours after school to participate in indoor/outdoor adventure based activities, these activities are created for building self confidence and working as a team. Boys Adventure Club: Ages 11 – 18 years old Meet every Friday for two hours after school to participate in activities with the same objectives in mind as Girls Club. Both Boys and Girls Adventure Clubs are renewed each term to allow those waiting a chance to join the Clubs. There is a small activities fee each term and a koha towards food costs each week. These groups are coordinated by the Youth Worker with volunteers.

  • An Annual Youth Expo with a different theme each year
  • Matariki. Kahu Youth initiated an annual celebration of Matariki. This is a free community driven event which marks the Maori New Year. The celebration includes a hangi, bonfire, workshops, storytelling, live music and kapa haka by the local youths.
  • There are a number of one off events and activities run by the youth workers throughout the year. Contact us to find out what’s going on right now!
  • Bluemoon is a collective of young people who promote fun, free events for young people without the use of alcohol or drugs. Kahu Youth facilitates the organisation of the events and offers continuous support to the committee throughout the year.
