WHAT IS KAHU YOUTH

Kahu Youth is a registered Charitable Trust formed in July 2003, and is managed by a trust board of 6 Trustees who meet bi-monthly.  It was developed after the community recognized a need for an advocate for the youth within the Wanaka Community.  After creating a Job Description a Youth Worker position was advertised and now Kahu Youth Trust has a full time and a part time Youth Worker dedicated to working with Youth aged between 11-24 years old.

KIDS CLUBS

Girls Adventure Clubs: Ages 11 – 18 years old  Meet either Tuesday’s or Wednesday’s for two hours after school to participate in indoor/outdoor adventure based activities, these activities are created for building self confidence and working as a team.

Boys Adventure Club: Ages 11 – 18 years old  Meet every Tuesday for two hours after school to participate in activities with the same objectives in mind as Girls Club, but with more of a hands on approach.

Both Boys and Girls Adventure Clubs are renewed each term to allow those waiting a chance to join the Clubs.  There is a small activities fee each term and a koha towards food costs each week.  These groups are coordinated by the Youth Worker with volunteers.

Wanaka Youth Council: Ages 13 – 24 years old  This is a group of youth who meet once a week and discuss the needs of the youth within the community.  The meetings last for an hour and a half and many different fundraising projects and events are planned and then held.  This is coordinated by the Youth Worker and Volunteers from within the community.
